Persicogenin

Description:
Persicogenin is a p-hydroxybenzoic acid derivative that has been found to have anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties. It binds to the receptor for 4-hydroxycinnamic acid and inhibits the transcriptional activity of nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) in human cells. The binding of persicogenin to the receptor also causes an increase in caspase-9 activity, which leads to apoptosis. In addition, persicogenin inhibits Streptococcus faecalis and reduces mitochondrial membrane potential. Persicogenin has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation by causing an accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
